MINERAL POLICE SQUANDER, AS GEN. ISOKE HENRY AND COL. EDITH NAKALEMA VOW TO END FAKE GOLD DEALERS
On Saturday afternoon ANTI-CORRUPTION UNIT(SHACU), swang into action at Serena Hotel Kampala after it had learnt of a serious issue involving a gold scam worth $800,000 to an American millionaire which resulted in a significant financial loss.
His report to the State House anti-corruption unit headed by Gen. Henry Isoke, a few days after a consultative meeting among key stakeholders at police headquarters Naguru was held. Here’s a clearer summary of the situation:
A gold scam worth $800,000 targeting an American with an involvement of the mineral police at Entebbe where he first reported the case of his monies taken without the gold he purchased, this later prompted a consultative meeting at the Police Headquarters in Naguru with key participants that included:
- Mrs. Irene Bateebe, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Energy.
- Abbas Byakagaba, (IGP ) Head of police forces.
- Brig.Gen. Isoke Henry from State House Anti-Corruption Unit. (SHACU)
- Col. Edith Nakelema, head of State House Investors Protection Unity (SHIPU).
- Representative from Uganda Revenue Authority.
- Representatives from the airport police.
The call for a joint meeting that brought stakeholders together was after the American billionaire made a phone which no one at the scene of the crime could tell its receiver, which might have prompted a joint consultative and an investigative call amongst the stakeholders.
Col. Edith Nakalema & Gen Isoke
The purpose of the meeting was to develop strategies to combat gold scams, which have been increasingly prevalent at Entebbe International Airport, highlighting its vulnerabilities as a porous entry and exit point for illicit gold transactions and other government officers who get involved.
Among the collaborative efforts aims to strengthen regulations, improve oversight, and enhance security measures to prevent future scams in Uganda most especially to keep the image of our newly renovated Entebbe International Airport.
With the high levels of seniority among the stakeholders it is believed that these joint forces will join efforts to clear the country’s image most especially at the Entebbe International Airport. And the two heads of state house bodies, Brig.Gen. Isoke Henry of the State House anti-corruption unit. (SHACU) and col. Edith Nakelema of state house Investor’s protection unit. (SHIPU) respectively is an added force to find solutions aligned for a positive fight to end the gold scammers in all forms.
