Epic Speke Commonwealth Convention Center, NAM, G77 Echo Sudhir’s Priceless Role In Marketing Uganda

As the new monumental Speke Resort Commonwealth Convention flings open its doors on January 10 next year well in time to host its maiden big client, the Non-Allied Movement [NAM] summit between January 15-20, the Bulletin Media takes a look at Dr Sudhir Ruparelia’s invaluable and patriotic role in marketing Uganda.

Started in 1961, NAM comprises 120 countries so far. The one slated to take place in Uganda, the current chair of the organization, is going to be the 19th summit. The high-level summit is projected to be graced by more than ten thousand guests arriving from its member states across the globe.

Reported to have cost Sudhir in the region of two hundred billion shillings and beyond, the main hosting venue[read convention], is set to host next after NAM, the G77 Summit, a loose organization of developing countries. That is going to be followed up by several summits spearheaded by China, the second largest global economy threatening currently to topple the United States, the foremost economic and military superpower on planet Earth.

Deep Pockets, Deep Impact

The huge costs involved can explain why the government was compelled to turn to Sudhir to help out, taking into consideration the fact that the government couldn’t quickly mobilize the kind of money required to erect the much-needed convention itself and within the shortest timelines that the job was supposed to be done and delivered.

Yet in the absence of the convention, Uganda likely risked losing out on the golden opportunity of hosting the two global big summits without even mentioning the enormous benefits that normally accrue from hosting such highly coveted international events.

That is why, first and foremost, Mr. Deep Pockets, Dr. Ruparelia Sudhir deserves a big round of applause from all patriotic Ugandans for making it possible for motherland Uganda to realize its dream and bid of hosting the two big events by making available the main hosting venue irrespective of the shortest deadlines within which the government tasked him to execute the job.

To jog your memory back in history, Sudhir is the same person who made it possible also for the 2007 edition of the high-level Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to be hosted by Uganda, constructing and making available Speke Commonwealth Resort which was the main hosting venue of the event.

A Legacy of Hosting Major Summits

Even if the government contacted him at short notice, tasking him to deliver the huge job within the shortest timelines possible, Dr Sudhir, as usual, credibly executed and completed the huge job with speed and finesse. Thanks to Dr Sudhir, the big international event was finally hosted and in Uganda and, most importantly, at his hotel in Munyonyo.

Because Sudhir provided where that meeting was hosted, Ugandans who were smart enough got an opportunity to make money by offering and providing whatever the foreign guests wanted. Others built hotels, adding to the stock of those that were already in the country, earning money from the foreign guests, helping to attract and host foreign visitors in the future.

New roads were built, old ones widened and enhanced, and repaired by the government, adding to the stock of the existing road infrastructure network in the country, easing the movement of people and goods, and opening up the country for trade and tourists. Crucially important to note too, Uganda’s image and standing were elevated in the international eyes, driving in more investors, attracting foreign currency, widening the country’s tax base, and harnessing and improving the economy.

From CHOGM 2007 to NAM Summit 2023

Important to recall that all those worthwhile milestones gained and many others not captured here for reasons of time and space were made possible and achievable since one man had cared and spared no coin towards delivering the patriotic job of provision of a standard main hosting venue for the high-level CHOGM meeting chaired by Queen Elizabeth of England herself. Speke Commonwealth Resort itself, rated as a top jewel by industry experts, continues to stand out to date as a hotel of choice, hosting international meetings, helping to market Uganda, and putting its image in favorable international stead.

Reverting to the Non-Allied Movement high-level upcoming meeting [NAM], as was the case with the 2007 CHOGM event, this one is yet another round of massive God-sent opportunities for the government of Uganda either to grab or let pass. Dr Sudhir deserves a big round of applause from all of us patriotic citizens for assisting in putting in place the necessary facilities, enabling Uganda to secure the rights of hosting the upcoming high-level NAM event not forgetting the G77 Summit plus the Chinese Conferences due to be held shortly after the end of the NAM summit.

Summoned by the government at short notice and then charged with the task of delivering the
necessary amenities within the shortest timelines possible, the deeply patriotic Dr. Sudhir has once again proved himself to be an invaluable gem at helping the government not only attract but also host high-value global events. Coming at a very opportune moment when the country is into the final processes and stages of getting oil out of its earth’s surface, the government of Uganda must wait ready to gainfully milk this conference for all the cream it can offer.

Unlocking Uganda’s Potential

First of all, scores of top decision-makers from governments and big companies across the globe are coming for the high-level Non-Allied Movement summit, presenting a huge opportunity to the government of Uganda to not only secure big dollar oil investment deals from the high caliber and valuable guests but also to vigorously and positively lobby them to market Uganda’s abundant natural wealth, good climate, fertile soils and conducive environment back home and to the rest of the world.

The international print, digital, and online media plus press and video cameras are expected to be here for the meeting, covering the proceedings at the conference, casting the proceedings widely across the globe, and showcasing the country’s vast business investment opportunities to the rest of the world. Sudhir has done his part. History is about to be written. How positively or negatively the present generation and coming generations are both going to earn and benefit from the massive opportunities waiting to be unlocked by such colossal international openings, will be a big indictment going into the future on those charged presently with running the affairs of this naturally abundantly endowed country.
