A FUEL TRUCK KILL, EXPOSES POVERTY LEVEL
The incident involving a fuel truck that overturned and led to a devastating fire is certainly tragic, and such events often evoke a variety of narratives and reactions on social media. Criticism can come from different angles.
It is not yet established what was the actual cause of this accident that the fuel truck overturned on a clear road in the Kigogwa trading centre. Minutes later fuel spilled out of the container flowing to a length of a hundred meters long.
An eye witness at the time of the accident said the fuel truck could have loaded off some litres of fuel somewhere along its route and little fuel remained depending on the fewer litres of fuel that spilt out of the container, yet if the fuel truck was full by the time of the accident it could have made the tragedy too fatal burning more than hundreds of household.
Seamless Tracking Of Fuel Trucks
There are a lot of narratives making rounds on social media about the fuel truck that overturned and immediately caught fire killing more than ten people and others left in critical and severe pain.
Some say these are normal deals of fuel truck drivers who after diverting or selling the fuel on the black market later do tricks to overturn the fuel trucks spilling the little litres of fuel left in the containers as an escape route for their dealings.
In an interview to a senior Uganda Revenue Enforcement officer narrates. Such tricks used to happen way back when the system monitoring fuel trucks was not in place, unlike today when fuel transporters are highly monitored with tracker devices and digital seals which makes it hard to open seals unless otherwise a comprise deal is made among top bosses to steal the whole fuel truck and its clear thefty.
The accident could be at ninety-nine per cent (99%) true as a result of driving from the shoulders of a bad road section that eventually turned down and fuel spilt down catching fire from a nearby chips woman whose charcoal stove was open and immediately exposed to the flowing fuel later to an explosion.
Caution To The Public
Victim support, there may be calls for better support for the victims’ families and communities affected by the tragedy, highlighting the need for compassion and resources for those affected., a call from Hon Joyce Nabosa Ssebugwawo minister of state for ICT and National guidance.
